Join me for a newly designed, intensive three-day workshop that blends the luscious, tactile freedom of Cold Wax with the ancient, textural intrigue of Encaustic Collagraphs. This isn't just about learning a medium; it’s about discovering your visual language and burying your story within layers of wax, oils and luscious dry pigments.
Move from intuitive chaos to curated artworks. We are breaking new ground, using diverse substrates like sleek aluminium and fragile tissue and wet strength tissue to create work that truly resonates.
THE JOURNEY: 3 DAYS OF IMMERSION
DAY 1: THE LABORATORY OF TEXTURE / Breaking Ground
Forget preciousness. Day one is about radical experimentation.
- Dive into experimental works on wet tissue paper.
- Learn the fascinating process of creating encaustic collagraph plates to print onto tissue ready to insert into your artworks.
- Intensive mark-making on panels: unleash loose, gestural energy.
- Substrate Prep: We will prepare professional aluminium panels, wood, and various papers for the 2 days ahead.
DAY 2: THE NARRATIVE & THE PALETTE / Defining Your Voice Why do you paint? Today we connect technique to meaning.
- Concept Development: Guided exercises to write a short, impactful artist statement. Your artwork needs to tell a story—we’ll find it.
- Colour Psychology: Complete a focused colour study to choose a deliberate palette that supports your narrative.
- Laying Foundations: Begin three distinct works simultaneously:
- Pure Pigments + Cold Wax
- Traditional Oils + Cold Wax
- Your Artist’s Choice mix.
DAY 3: EXCAVATION & COMPOSITION / The Reveal
Bring it all together with advanced design principles.
- Mastering surface manipulation: learning when to add and when to subtract.
- Strategic Collage: Integrating materials into your layers.
- The Fusion: Watch a demonstration on reduction techniques, and then integrate parts of your Day 1 encaustic collagraphs into your final pieces for incredible depth.

Holy shiznicks, I've just been christened into the world of encaustic by Cheryl McGannon in one of her 2 day workshops. She is a master of the medium and had me at the words "blow torch and melted beeswax"!!! I've a long way to go to experiment with this technique and how to incorporate into my work, but am so grateful to have been introduced to it. The Edge of Silence
Cold wax mixed media on panel, this painting is my response to the current war in the Ukraine. My initial reaction to the aggressive invasion of the Ukraine by Russia.
The inhumanity of war by aggressive greedy nations, does nothing but desecrate people's lives, the environment and is a crime against humanity. My heart weeps for the people of Ukraine.
